Become a Volunteer

Our volunteers are the strength of our organization and help us deliver our services to those in our community who have low levels of literacy.     

As an  organization, we offer many opportunities where you can assist us in delivering our services.  We look for volunteers to help us with the following: 

  •  Board of Directors
  • Community Relations 
  • Human resources committee
  • Book sales, bingos 
  • Volunteer fairs
  • Special events
  • Fundraising
  • Office assistance

Seeking Fundraising Committee Members

 

Role
Help the Literacy Group raise funds for its programs and services through fundraising events
Help the Literacy Group
Provide accessible literacy training services to empower adults to reach their goals and improve their quality of life
Time Commitment
6-8 hours a month; however time commitment will increase as the event day comes closer
Responsibilities
Help plan and organize fundraising events
Attend fundraising meetings to assist with upcoming projects
Offer new fundraising ideas
Help run the fundraising events
Assist with getting resources for events
Promote fundraising events to community
Examples of Our Fundraising Events
Rodding for Reading (car & motorcycle show)
Read-a-thon
Book fair
Requirements and qualifications
Strong communication skills
Experience in working with people from diverse backgrounds
Good organizational skills
Ability to work as a team player but also can work independently
Good leadership skills
Flexible and reliable
Previous event planning experience is an asset but not necessary
