Leading with Literacy

September 7, 2016 // The Tannery

Join The Literacy Group of Waterloo Region (TLG) for a night of community engagement, professional development and personal growth.

TLG has partnered with Marc and Samantha Hurwitz, who wrote the revolutionary best-selling book “Leadership is Half the Story: A Fresh Look at Followership, Leadership, and Collaboration”, for a one-of-a-kind event.

Marc and Samantha Hurwitz work with organizations all over the globe to deliver a series of unique, hands-on professional development workshops that fuel collaboration, enhance creativity, and develop today’s essential workplace capabilities: followership, leadership, innovation and partnership. These same key capabilities can also be found at the core of TLG’s adult literacy and essential skills programs.

The unique 90-minute ‘pracademic’ workshop is designed to help participants elevate individual and team performance, improve decision-making, and develop effective leadership skills.

// Our Workshop

The pracademic 90-minute workshop will be delivered by Marc and Samantha Hurtwitz, who are recognized globally for their pioneering approach in followership and leadership. Their acclaimed book, “Leadership is Half the Story: A Fresh Look at Followership, Leadership, and Collaboration”, introduces the first model to seamlessly integrate leadership, followership and partnerships.

Can you imagine a choreographer training only one dancer to lead while his or her partner sits in the lobby staring at the wall? Unthinkable? Yet this happens all the time within organizations. Half the partnership is missing! All of us lead, not just those with the formal title. All of us follow, not just frontline staff. What’s more, leadership and followership are dynamic roles. This empowering perspective opens up leadership to everyone, elevates followership, and enables more productive and innovative collaborations. Based on the book, Leadership is Half the Story, this workshop offers a host of new ideas and practical tools for everyone in an organization – from CEO to HR director to front-line manager to consultant.
