FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What service does The Literacy Group provide?

At TLG, we offer upgrading programs to adults 18 and over. These programs are free and delivered by professional staff and a fantastic team of volunteers. We offer one-to-one tutoring, small group classes in Kitchener and Cambridge locations, and online options to suit individual learning needs.

Visit our Program Guide for more information.

Do you have programs that will help me find a job?

We cannot find you a job, but we can help by building your skills for employment. Our Focus on Work programs develop skills needed in today’s workforce. We can also connect you with an employment service provider for help with your resume and job-search skills.

Visit our Program Guide for more information.

How much do the programs cost?

All our programs are free for eligible adults.

Am I eligible for your programs?

Programs are free for adults who:

  • Are Ontario Residents
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number
  • Are able to learn in English (Canadian Language Benchmark 6 in Speaking and Listening is recommended for most of our programs)
  • Are 18 years or older
  • Are NOT taking high school credit classes

Can TLG teach me how to use my computer?

Yes. TLG offers Basic Computer Training and can connect you with more advanced training through partner agencies. We also teach computer skills along with our reading, writing and math programs.

Visit our Program Guide for more information.

How do I know if TLG is the right place for me?

Great question! There are other literacy providers in the region, each with different target audiences and programs. If you are currently unemployed, you may be entitled to a free skills assessment through Project READ.

Project READ should be the organization you contact FIRST to help direct you to the right skills provider.
