Working within a classroom can be a very rewarding experience. It can give you the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives, and enrich your own.

Training
Tutor applicants will participate in a 10-hour online training workshop. After the training, each tutor will complete a minimum of 4 hours of mentoring with either the class or curriculum. Every tutor has the option to complete the in-class training to become a Laubach-certified tutor.
Time and commitment
To be a Classroom Assistant, we ask for a 6 month minimum commitment. The Group Facilitator role requires anything from 6 weeks to 1 year. Modular Group Tutors can commit to 8-12-week sessions throughout the year.
Here are the steps you will take to become an Adult Literacy Tutor:
- Download and complete the application form.
- Send the form to Stuart Oakley, our Outreach Coordinator.
- Interview with two Program Coordinators.
- Complete the training.
- Be matched with your student and start.
- Ongoing mentoring and professional development will be provided.
All volunteers must be willing to complete our application and volunteer screening process which includes a Vulnerable Sector Police Records check.
