Group Facilitator

Working within a classroom can be a very rewarding experience. It can give you the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives, and enrich your own.

Groups are online and in-person.

Training
Tutor applicants will participate in a 10-hour online training workshop. After the training, each tutor will complete a minimum of 4 hours of mentoring with either the class or curriculum.  Every tutor has the option to complete the in-class training to become a Laubach-certified tutor.

Time and commitment
To be a Classroom Assistant, we ask for a 6 month minimum commitment. The Group Facilitator role requires anything from 6 weeks to 1 year. Modular Group Tutors can commit to 8-12-week sessions throughout the year.

Here are the steps you will take to become an Adult Literacy Tutor:

  1. Download and complete the application form.
  2. Send the form to Stuart Oakley, our Outreach Coordinator. 
  3. Interview with two Program Coordinators.
  4. Complete the training.
  5. Be matched with your student and start.
  6. Ongoing mentoring and professional development will be provided.

All volunteers must be willing to complete our application and volunteer screening process which includes a Vulnerable Sector Police Records check.
